To register to vote in Virginia, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Virginia, at least 18 years old by the next general election, have had voting rights restored if convicted of a felony, and have had capacity restored by court order if declared mentally incapacitated.

VIRGINIA NOW HAS SAME-DAY VOTER REGISTRATION

Ballots cast by same-day registrants will be counted as provisional ballots, giving election officials time to verify identification and eligibility to vote.

When Do I Vote?

Special Elections can occur as needed. Visit Fairfax County's website for the Office of Elections to see the dates for Upcoming Elections: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/upcoming

Early voting

All registered voters can vote early without a reason or excuse.

Curbside voting is available during early voting: those 65 and older or with a physical disability may vote from their vehicle.

Help Abolish the Electoral College

Two National Popular Vote bills have been filed in Richmond (SB322 & HB965). These bills will have Virginia join DC & 17 other states that have already enacted National Popular Vote. Once passed by states with a majority of the electoral votes (270 out of 538), the national popular vote law will guarantee the President is the candidate that earned the most popular votes in all 50 states & DC.

National Popular Vote means no more 2nd place Presidents (that’s happened 5 times in our history, most recently in 2000 and 2016).

The 2024 general-election campaign for President was concentrated on just 7 closely divided states. These 7 states have a little less than 20% of the U.S. population. As a result, 80% of Americans are mere spectators to the 2024 presidential election. Under the National Popular Vote, candidates will be forced to campaign all across the country, not just in the so-called “battleground states.”
