ATTEND A TOWN HALL

to learn more about the redistricting amendment and the campaign it and all of the new congressional districts. Moderated by Mayor Catherine Read.

March 3, 2026
7-9 pm
City Hall
10455 Armstrong St.
Fairfax, VA

_____________

The Latest: FCDC members showed overwhelming support for the redistricting measure in a special late-February meeting. FCDC officially endorses the Vote YES campaign by Virginians for Fair Elections. The Primary Election date has been adjusted based on this (see box immediately below this).

Background: Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, but right now they are under threat. With states like Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida actively manipulating congressional maps mid-decade at Donald Trump’s demand, Virginians face a real risk of having their voice in Washington diminished if it does nothing. This amendment is a necessary response to an unprecedented moment. Learn about the new proposed Congressional districts, including detailed demographic data.

March is Women’s History Month. It celebrates the contributions of women to history, culture, and society and honors the successes and sacrifices of women in the United States. Women’s History Month has been officially observed in the United States since 1987 when Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.

The National Women’s History Alliance designates a yearly theme for Women’s History Month. For 2026, the theme is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” It celebrates the contributions of women who are leading sustainability efforts across environmental, economic, educational and social justice movements.

BILLS IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY WOULD ADVANCE NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE

Two National Popular Vote bills have been filed in Richmond (SB322 & HB965)

These bills will have Virginia join DC & 17 other states that have already enacted National Popular Vote. Once passed by states with a majority of the electoral votes (270 out of 538), the national popular vote law will guarantee the President is the candidate that earned the most popular votes in all 50 states & DC.

National Popular Vote means no more 2nd place Presidents (that’s happened 5 times in our history, most recently in 2000 and 2016).

The 2024 general-election campaign for President was concentrated on just 7 closely divided states. These 7 states have a little less than 20% of the U.S. population. As a result, 80% of Americans are mere spectators to the 2024 presidential election. Under the National Popular Vote, candidates will be forced to campaign all across the country, not just in the so-called “battleground states.”
